Obituary

Virginia (Ginny) Karen Clinton Lovett, 81, was born August 19, 1942 in Tacoma, Washington and passed peacefully January 7, 2024 in St. Marys, Georgia.

She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 57 years, Dave, her daughter Becky Offringa (Hans), her sons Edward and David (Archana), her niece Sarah McElrath (Charlie), her grandchildren Liam, Luke, Ethan and Elliot, many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and her much-loved sisters and brothers-in- law, Kathy and Rudy Petersen and Marilyn and John Dewey.

She is preceded in death by her parents Bob and Mary Clinton and her two older sisters, Mary Christel and Ann Roush.

Ginny had perfect pitch, started playing piano at age three, took piano lessons throughout childhood and graduated from Franklin Pierce High School in Tacoma in 1960. Although she wanted to be an archaeologist, she went to the University of Puget Sound to pursue a degree in music, with piano as her main instrument. She was an enthusiastic member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She spent her junior year at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria, in order to study with a renowned pianist. After graduation with a Bachelor's in Music in 1964 she went on to the University of Illinois where she earned a Masters in Music in 1966. Thereafter she took an associate professor position at Auston Peay University in Tennessee. Ginny met her husband Dave at his little sister Marilyn's wedding soon after. It was love at first sight and they married in 1967. They lived in Fairfax, Virginia, Charleston, South Carolina and moved to St. Marys, Georgia in 1982. Ginny enjoyed singing in the choirs of her churches and often substituted for the resident organist. Ginny was organist and choir director for Christ Episcopal Church, St. Marys for about 20 years. After retiring from Christ Church, Ginny became organist at First Presbyterian Church in St. Marys. Ginny taught countless piano students from home on her 1914 Steinway grand piano, and some became lifelong friends. She was a member of the Jacksonville Symphony chorus for ten years, along with Dave. Her last full piano concert was given in Tifton, Georgia in the 1990s. Ginny enjoyed the times she played piano for Camden High musicals and for the musical theater in Fernandina. Ginny composed many praise and worship songs. She played in various chamber music groups over the decades and for countless weddings. She volunteered to play piano for the seniors at Magnolia Manor, every Monday morning for the 10 years preceding her own move there in 2020. In addition to her love of music, she loved Jesus, her family, her friends. She enjoyed travel, photography, laughing, crafting, volunteering for the Boy Scouts, baking and trying to cook
anything. Ginny never met a stranger, was always eager to listen, to encourage others in their faith and to help anyone she could. The family would like to thank the staff at Magnolia Manor and Lakes Crossing for their care of Ginny.

A service will be held 11 am Friday, January 19, 2024 at Christ Episcopal Church in St. Marys, Georgia. Ginny will be interred at Jacksonville National Cemetery. There will be a reception following in the parish hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 305 Wheeler Street, St. Marys, Georgia 31558.

Allison Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
