Susan
Bolt
Oct 1, 1963 — Apr 22, 2025
Susan Elizabeth (Clark) Bolt of Kingsland, Georgia, passed away on April 22, 2025, at the age of 61.
Susan was born on October 1, 1963, in Middleboro, Massachusetts, to Charles B. Clark and Alice L. (Moranville) Clark, and was the younger sister of her brother, Charles B. Clark, Jr. Susan had an active childhood and enjoyed sailing on the Beetle Cat sailboat with her father and competing in races at Angelica Yacht Club, playing tennis and basketball, going for walks in the evening to stargaze with her grandfather, and being an enthusiastic member of the Campfire Girls. She attended Reading Memorial High School, graduating in 1981. After high school, Susan attended Bay State College in Boston, Massachusetts, and University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida, where she studied elementary education. Susan was enthusiastic about working in the airline industry, particularly customer service, which involved ticketing, assisting with flights, guiding planes, and helping with arrivals and departures. She often shared warm memories and stories of beloved coworkers and friends, as well as quirky or funny stories from interactions with customers. Two other favorite encounters at work included meeting Ms. Coretta Scott King and her childhood hero, Mr. Rogers. She worked for Freedom Airlines, Pilgrim Airways, and U.S. Airways, where she proudly finished her career before becoming a homemaker.
Susan married Michael K. Bolt on April 8, 1995. Susan and Michael went on to have a daughter, Alyssa L. Bolt, in 1996. A few years later, the family moved from Jacksonville, Florida, to Auburn, New Hampshire. There, she volunteered frequently at Auburn Village School, mentored and connected with elementary and middle school students, and quickly became the "classroom mom." Some of Susan's happiest moments included travel: a trip to Greece with close friends, culminating in the group spontaneously splurging on mink coats, a family trip to Bermuda as a child, a road trip across the U.S. with family, summer trips to Maine, and visits to the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas with her father and her daughter.
She loved the change of seasons and holidays, throwing elaborate Halloween parties featuring decorative "headstones" customized for each guest in attendance. She loved apple picking, hayrides, pumpkin carving, and decorating the house for holidays. She had the gift of making every holiday feel special, to the extent of leaving bits of salad down the staircase to convince her daughter that the reindeer had snuck in the house on Christmas Eve, late in the night. She had a gift for making the ordinary feel extraordinary, whether it was making a holiday feel magical or simply helping those around her to feel loved and appreciated. She loved anything creative, especially photography, crafting, sewing, baking, gardening, room re-decorating, and spontaneous DIY projects. Susan attended countless concerts and was an ardent classic rock fan, enjoying artists like The J. Geils Band, Jackson Browne, Foreigner, Aerosmith, Huey Lewis and the News and numerous others. Susan had an inside joke with her daughter that she was able to see all the great bands, growing up during a time of amazing music. The two enjoyed the fact that they both saw Van Halen and Styx live in concert, decades apart. Susan also attended Lady Gaga concerts with Alyssa multiple times, proudly taking a picture next to the infamous "meat dress" in Las Vegas. Years before they met, Susan and her husband, Michael, realized they'd both attended a Pink Floyd concert in Orlando, Florida, at the same time. Susan enjoyed connecting with nature. She loved to swim, go for boat rides, spend time at her grandparents' beach house as a young girl in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, and visit the Jetties beaches with family. She also loved attending Lobster Bakes with her family, especially her cousins, with whom she shared lifelong, deep connections. After living in New Hampshire for about eight years, the family moved back to Jacksonville, Florida, and Susan and Michael later settled in Kingsland, Georgia. There, Susan again enjoyed connecting with nature, watching the birds on the patio, visiting Driftwood Beach, and exploring the St. Marys River and downtown park area.
Susan is preceded in death by her mother, Alice (Moranville) Clark.
She is survived by her father, Charles B. Clark; her husband, Michael K. Bolt; her brother, Charles B. Clark, Jr.; her daughter, Alyssa L. Bolt, and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and cherished friends.
Susan filled every room with laughter, often finding humor in the smallest things and making sure others left with a smile. She will be missed by those who shared life's moments with her. Her family and friends will carry forward not just her memory, but the joy, humor, and love she brought into every corner of life.
Susan's Celebration of Life will be held at The Hilltop Restaurant in Orange Park, Florida, on October 4, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
It would be deeply meaningful to both Susan and her family should loved ones wish to make a donation to the American Kidney Fund, linked here: https://give.kidneyfund.org/page/71565/donate/1, in her honor. The American Kidney Fund is an organization that supports patients with kidney disease in all facets of their lives, including but not limited to prevention, research, treatment of kidney disease, and transplant support.
