Obituary

Steve Howard Bova, 69, passed away on June 28, 2026 in St. Marys Georgia.

He was born on May 20, 1957 in Long Branch New Jersey to Gregory Joseph Bova and Marjorie Bova. Steve grew up as part of a large and loving Italian family. His childhood was filled with time spent with his family, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many cousins, creating memories and family connections that remained meaningful throughout his life. Steve grew up alongside his older, Brother Greg, and was surrounded by the warmth and kindness of his family. From a young age, Steve showed that he was a talented and natural athlete. By high school he was actively involved in several sports, including basketball football and tennis. His athletic ability and determination, and leadership earned him the honor of serving as captain of the tennis team during his senior year. Steve was well liked by his classmates and respected for his accomplishments as an athlete. After graduating from high school Steve moved to Miami Florida to attend college. It was there he discovered a passion for tennis, not only playing the game, but teaching it as well. What began as a passion grew into a long and successful career. Steve was a member of both the USTA and PTR for over 40 years as a certified tennis coach. Over the years, Steve shared his knowledge and love of tennis with countless students. He later returned to Long Branch during the summers, teaching tennis to new generations, and continuing to make an impact through the sport he loved. Outside of tennis Steve enjoyed fishing and spending time with his Parents. Even while fishing, his competitive spirit was ever present. After retiring from his tennis career, Steve moved to Georgia to be closer to his Parents, and Brother Greg. Steve often enjoyed sharing stories about his experiences with famous tennis players and celebrities he had the honor of teaching or playing with. He also loved reminiscing about growing up in Long Branch. His experiences, passion for the game, competitive nature and love of family were important parts of who he was.

Steve is survived by his parents, Gregory Joseph and Marjorie Bova of St. Mary’s Georgia, his Brother Gregory Robert Bova and his sister-in-law Lisa Yourth of St. Marys Georgia and his sister Michelle Asplund and brother-in-law Jeff Asplund, of Corralitos, California.

Steve will be remembered for his talent, love of tennis, competitive spirit, memorable stories, and the special place he held in the heart of his family and friends.
