Shirley "JoAnn" Sheffield passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, at the age of 95 years.

Born at the family's home in Kingsland Georgia on December 18, 1929, she was the youngest child of Sherard C. Sheffield and Shirley P. Sheffield.

Shirley attended Camden County High School and the University of Georgia, where she became a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. After college she was married to Joseph E.  Watson, Sr. for a period of 18 years.  During that time in addition to her duties as an army officer's wife, she was a homemaker and raised 3 children.  Following their divorce in 1968, she moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she lived for the remainder of her life.

Survivors include her 2 daughters, Denise Watson Gilbreath of Jacksonville, Florida and Teresa Diane Watson of Tarrytown, New York, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Joseph E. Watson, Jr., her 3 brothers Carl Sheffield, Wilbur Sheffield and Arnold Sheffield and her sister Ida Deal.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude for the loving care she received from her extended family at Cathedral Care, now Northbank Center, during the last 2 and a half years of her life.  The care they gave went well beyond what could be described as a job and was clearly more of a calling.  And she loved them.

Services will be held on Thursday April 10, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 1100 Stockton St. Jacksonville, Fl.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd or the charity of your choice.
