Obituary

Sharonda "Shawn" P. Salser (Gambles), a beloved educator and the cherished youngest of fourteen children, passed away on August 21, 2025, at the age of 56.

Born in Fairfield, Alabama, on June 15, 1969, Shawn grew up in a lively military family. In their two-story green house, surrounded by her thirteen older siblings, she learned the importance of unconditional love and kindness. She developed a passion for staying active with tennis and track and a deep love for learning that she nurtured through a lifetime of reading. Supported by the love of her family, Shawn worked hard to earn scholarships to the University of Alabama, graduating with a teaching degree in 1997. She began her career in Duval County for three years before moving to Camden County, Georgia, which would become her home for over 25 years. As a teacher, she was known for creating a warm and supportive environment, leaving an everlasting legacy of care and encouragement with her students and the community she served so well.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Ruby Gambles, and two brothers, Lorenza and Darrell Gambles.

Left to mourn her passing and cherish her memory are her loving husband, Tim Salser; their three children, Daniel, Jonathan, and Serenity Salser; five sisters: Helen (John) McMillian, Brenda (Douglas) Jones, Gloria (Porter) Rollins, Shervin Blount, and Kathy (Gerald) Husband; and six brothers: Lionel (Rosalind) Gambles, Dan (Essence) Gambles, Gregory (Laverne) Gambles, Anthony (Carolyn) Gambles, Terrone (Sherri) Gambles, and Don (Jovilyn) Gambles. She was a beloved aunt to twenty-eight nieces and nephews. Also left to mourn are Kim (Marc) Taylor, Megan Marquardt (Alexander), and Charlotte Rose, who all held a very special place in her life. She leaves behind a host of other relatives and dear friends who will miss her dearly.

A visitation to celebrate her life will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Allison Memorial Chapel, 10141 Colerain Road, St. Marys, GA 31558.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church at 106 Dillingham Street East, St. Marys, GA 31558. To honor our mother's memory, we kindly request that attendees consider wearing her favorite color, royal blue.
