Ronnie Lee Thigpen, 75, passed away at his residence on August 21, 2026 with his loving wife Ruth, by his side.

Ronnie was born on January 20, 1951, to Bernice and Betty Thigpen. He and his 4 siblings grew up in Woodbine, GA. As a young man, he joined the United States Army where he served in the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He received the Purple Heart and many other medals and badges for his service in Vietnam. After leaving the Army he returned to Kingsland, GA where he spent many years working as a contractor. Ronnie loved watching Georgia Bulldog football, watching old westerns and being with his family. He will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Don Thigpen and Wendell Thigpen; his sister, Carol Fortenberry; and his stepdaughter, Michelle Griffin.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Thigpen; his stepdaughter, Kristy Gomez and husband Rafael; his daughter, Sarah Whitehead and husband Johnny; his stepson, Jamie McKenney and wife Kimberly; his brother, Gary Thigpen and wife Charlotte; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Golden Isles for the continued care for Ronnie.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
