Richard S.
Walsh, Iii Dvm
Feb 11, 1944 — Jun 22, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard S. Walsh III, DVM, on June 22, 2024.
Rick, aka "Dr. Dawg," was a dedicated and compassionate veterinarian, known for his pioneering role as the first resident veterinarian in Camden County, Ga. His commitment to animal care extended to his community, where, as a founding member of the Humane Society of Camden County, he left a lasting legacy. His expertise and dedication to veterinary medicine defined his career; he will be deeply missed.
Rick was born in Atlanta, Ga. on February 11, 1944 to Virginia and Richard S. Walsh, Jr. He graduated from The Lovett School in 1962. He completed his undergraduate studies at Emory University, where he met Louisa Williams. They were married on August 5, 1967. Rick and Lou moved to Augusta, Ga. where he studied microbiology at the Medical College of Georgia and completed his Masters degree. The couple then moved to Athens, Ga. where Rick attended the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating at the top of his class in 1974. During their time in Athens, they were blessed with two children, Jennifer and Clinton. The family followed Rick's career around the country for the next several years. They settled in Camden County in 1980, and the legacy of the Animal Medical Clinic was begun.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Louisa Walsh, his devoted daughter Jennifer (Chet) Parker, his caring son Clinton (Josie) Walsh, his grandchildren Solan Walsh and Jarrod (Mackenzy) Parker, and great granddaughter Madeleine Parker. Richard's family was his pride and joy; he took immense pleasure in spending time with them. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting birds and fishing with family as well as his many friends. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle with the Christian Motorcycle Association.
Services to honor Richard's life will be held on July 8, 2024 at 2:30 pm at Agape Church, where Rick worshiped and served the Lord. Agape Church is located at 10600 Colerain Rd. in St. Marys: dress is casual.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Humane Society of Camden County.
Allison Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
