Peter Richard
Gallagher
Jun 20, 1960 — May 13, 2023
Peter Richard Gallagher, 62, of St. Mary's, Ga. passed away on May 13, 2023 peacefully under hospice care.
Pete was born on June 20,1960 in San Diego, CA to parents, Mary and Joseph Gallagher. He leaves behind his siblings in New York and his group of close friends in St Marys and the surrounding area. Pete was raised in New York with a loving family. He attended a couple years of college but then decided the Navy could provide the adventure he desired. He served on several submarines in Connecticut and Kings Bay and was a master trainer. Pete retired from the Navy as a Reactor Controls Chief Petty Officer. He commented often, to many of us, about how much fun we all had on our boats and that he would do it again. He continued his professional career with a government contractor making sure submarines were ready to go to sea in defense of our country. After military retirement, he followed his passion for the water as he kayaked the local waterways as an instructor and guide. He also loved camping on Cumberland Island with a group of close friends. His big heart always showed as he took the time to guide and mentor. He was always giving selflessly and found home volunteering at the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He
chaired and assisted with several charity events a year, worked diligently as the secretary and a member of the board of trustees. His preferred charities were Ronald McDonald House and the Eagles Cancer Fund.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Pete at the St Marys Eagles, date still to be determined. We, his friends, would all ask that, in Pete's honor; give of yourself freely, follow your passion, and remember his big heart fondly.
Allison Memorial is honored to serve Pete's friends and family during this time of grief.
