Obituary

Mrs. Mary Scruggs, 96, beloved wife, mother, grandmother passed away peacefully on 29 May 2024.

Mary was a resident of Harriett's Bluff, Georgia and previously resided in Waycross, GA for many years as she raised her children. Born in Patterson, Georgia, Mary was known for her unwavering love for God and her compassionate nature towards others.  She was a pillar of strength and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met.

Mary's life was filled with love and laughter centered around her devotion to her family.  She shared 70 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved late husband, Malcolm Scruggs.  She spent many years supporting him throughout his military career during multiple deployments and relocations.  In her younger years, Mary worked with her mother, Mattie Lloyd, building ships in the Brunswick, GA shipyards to support WWII efforts.

Mary shared a strong love and bond with her brothers, Thomas, Jack and Leslie Lloyd who preceeded her in death.  She was a devoted mother to her four children, the late Malcolm Scruggs Jr., Steven Scruggs (wife Sylvia), LeFane Shaw, and Julie Locker and took joy in raising them in the Christian faith.

Mary had a creative talent as shown through the many colorful quilts that she made over the years.  She was an avid reader and loved to fish, dance and travel the country with Malcolm in their RV and she cherished the moments she spent watching sunrises at Amelia Island. Her sweet disposition and caring nature endeared her to all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be remembered by many.  Mary will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

A celebration of life will be held at Allison Memorial Chapel, St. Mary's GA on June 3, 2024, 6:00 PM with visitation at 5:30 PM
