Marrisia Diane
Bowen
May 9, 1954 — Jul 4, 2026
Marrisia Diane Bowen, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2026, at her residence.
Marrisia Bowen, lovingly known to nearly everyone as "Honker," was born on May 9, 1954, to Robert and Josephine Bowen.
A lifelong Camden County resident, Honker grew up on Margaret Street in St. Marys and graduated from Camden County High School in 1972. She was a gifted athlete who loved competition, spending many years on the basketball court and softball field proudly wearing her favorite number, 22. Honker earned an associate degree in childcare from Florida Junior College and began her career caring for children at the Child Care Center on Kings Bay. She later joined Gilman Hospital, now Southeast Georgia Health System Camden Campus, where she faithfully served her community for more than 30 years before retiring in 2020. While Honker's accomplishments were many, what people will remember most was her heart. She had a way of making people feel like family, whether you had known her for decades or only a short time. She loved fiercely, laughed often, and believed life was meant to be enjoyed. Whether spending time with the people she loved, listening to her favorite bands, cheering on her favorite NASCAR drivers, or simply sharing stories and laughter, Honker found joy in the little moments and made those around her smile.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Joe and Lorraine Frost, with whom she lived with for more than 55 years. Their family became her family.
She is survived by her brother, Danny Bowen (Laura) of Roswell, Georgia; her nephew, Dr. Bob Bowen (Melissa); her niece, Katrina Bowen, whose loving care and devotion over the past 14 months brought Honker great comfort; and her great-niece, Melania Bowen.
She also leaves behind the family she chose and who cherished her as one of their own: Don and Lynn Lewis; Taylor and Tyler Mobbs and their children, Ella, Emory, and Everett; Chris and Tonia Frost; Justin and Macy Frost and their children, Mollie and Ranz; and Jarred and Jacy Frost
A gathering to celebrate her life will be held Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 11:00am until 12:30pm at Allison Memorial Chapel. A private burial will follow in Blackshear, GA.
Allison Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
