Lorraine J. Steed

She was "sweet Lorraine" to a very few, but most of us came to know her as "Lorrie". Lorrie peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 7, 2026.

Her story began in a town just outside of Chicago in 1941. She was the youngest of 3 children and the "apple" of her father's eye. At the age of 7, her family relocated to Southern California where they stayed for many decades. Lorrie's 2 brothers, Russell and Arthur were 10+ yrs older than her and were always keeping a watchful eye on her, especially when she got old enough to date.

Lorrie attended high school at Harbor High in Newport Beach. She was an exceptional student and actively involved in sports and many of the school's social clubs. In her Senior year, Lorrie got accepted into UCSB and planned to major in Child Psychology. However, during that summer after graduation she met and fell in love with a young marine named Chuck Dent and went on to elope in Las Vegas, much to the chagrin of her parents. Shortly thereafter, they started their family and went on to have 3 children: Bradley, Charlene and Russell.

Lorrie went on to work for many years running a medical practice in Solana Beach. She was highly admired by her staff and adored by her patients alike. In her spare time, Lorrie took up clogging and even tried her hand at the banjo, ultimately finding her true passion in quilting.

Along life's journey, she and Chuck divorced and she eventually met and married Whitney Steed "Whit". Together they enjoyed traveling and antiquing and I remember teasing my mother once by saying, "I know you love antiques, but did you have to go and marry one?!? You see, he was 20 yrs her senior, but he was a wonderful man and he adored her.

After Whit passed away, Lorrie moved to the East Coast to Ga to be near her daughter, granddaughter and great grandchildren. Lorrie became active in the St. Marys/Kingsland LDS church and was known for her wonderful gift of writing and storytelling.

Lorrie is survived by her children: Brad Dent and his wife Kitty, Charlene Mullis and her husband Kevin, and by her youngest son Russell, who was her faithful caregiver until the very end. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jessica Gamble and Laura Silva; her great grandchildren Zeke, Ellie, and Eva Silva and by Marshall and Myrdok. Lastly, Lorrie was also survived by her only remaining nephew, Rick Cuthbert.

She will be missed by all.

A Memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 3:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel in Kingsland, GA.
