Leroy
Mcdaniel
Dec 26, 1950 — Oct 27, 2023
Leroy McDaniel of St. Marys Georgia passed away on Oct 27th 2023 after a very long and hard fought battle. We are incredibly proud of the strength and perseverance he showed throughout his life and most recently while fighting this illness.
Roy was born on Dec 26th 1950 in Columbus, GA. His time was spent mostly in the Fort Pierce/Vero Beach area of South Florida. Later in life he settled down in Cumming, GA until retiring in St. Marys earlier this year. Roy was known for his charm and wit with an uncanny ability to make any situation hilarious. He has left his friends and family with a wealth of hysterical moments to remember him by. Throughout his life he was a master craftsman in both artistic and professional endeavors. His talents excelled in the composites industry, a career that lasted decades. Over the course of 50 plus years his innovative ideas were applied in the Marine, Aircraft, Hotel and Automotive industries. A highlight of his accomplishments was being a unique and creative force in the Custom Furniture trade during the late 1980's and early 1990's. In addition he supplemented his work with endless personal artistic projects, projects that he continued to plan and talk about until his final days.
Roy was an unwavering man of faith, as an ordained minister he dedicated a good portion of his life to sharing the word of god with others. This saw him participate in prisoner outreach, developing sermons, ministering to those in need and officiating weddings. Additionally he took part in countless other good deeds associated with his time in the church. Roy had a passion for his family, marrying the love of his life Patty McDaniel in 1972 and enjoying over 50 years of marriage. Together they raised three children, two sons and one daughter. He loved his wife and children dearly and was known to be a strong and steady figure during challenging times. He adored being a Grandfather. Known as "Pop Pop" to his
grandchildren he cherished every moment he spent with them, his positive influence will continue to guide them as they move throughout their lives. Also known as "Grandpaw" he was loved by several dogs in the family including Buddy, Frenchie, Oscar and Orko. Roy's love of life did not come to an end with his passing. His enduring outlook on existence will continue to inspire those that knew and loved him.
He leaves behind his wife Patty McDaniel, Sons Chris McDaniel (Jennifer), Craig McDaniel (Kelly), Daughter Cortney Gibbs (Tom), Brothers Denny Wynn (Sandra), Tim McDaniel, Sisters Martha Kersey (The Late Robert Kersey) Frances Mullins (The Late Clay Mullins) and five grandchildren Addison, Ayden, Tiffani, Tommy and Dylan.
He is preceded in death by his parents Leroy & Mary Olene McDaniel.
One of Roy's well known catchphrases when he was leaving a room was to say "I'm glad you got to see me." Anyone that truly knew him couldn't argue with that, we are all blessed to have known him.
A Celebration of Life event will be determined and announced at a later date.
Allison Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
