Obituary

Don Drury, 60, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024, in Brunswick, GA.

He was born on May 27, 1964, in Augusta, GA, to Dr. Carl Morris Drury Jr. and Margaret "Peggy" Dalton Adams Drury. Don spent his childhood in St. Marys, GA, and graduated from Glynn Academy in Brunswick, GA.

He was preceded in death by his mother, and now joins her in Glory for a joyous reunion.

From an early age, Don embraced life with passion and enthusiasm. He cultivated a deep love for the outdoors, finding joy in hunting, fishing, and exploring nature. As a talented golfer, he led the Glynn Academy golf team to numerous victories, leaving an enduring legacy at the school. He later attended the University of Georgia, where he joined the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and formed countless lifelong friendships. Don's love of music was a theme that resonated throughout his life. For more than four decades, he shared his gift with audiences, performing with guitar, harmonica, dobro and soulful voice. His original songs included "Soldiers of the Great Outdoors" - an anthem for those who cherish the wild places of our land, "Sing a Song of Christmas," which beautifully captures the love of Christ and the love shared between friends and family during the Yuletide, moving even the stoniest hearts, and "Smile, Smile Golden Isles," which vividly portrays Georgia's coastal charm and was adopted by the golden isles chamber of commerce to promote the region. For over four decades, his performances brought joy to all ages, from wide-eyed children to seasoned elders, fostering connections and creating cherished moments wherever he played, reflecting his love for life and the beauty of the world around him. Above all, Don's greatest and most enduring legacy is the love he shared with his family and friends, especially his unwavering devotion to his son, Daniel. He cherished every moment that they spent together. Don was known to those close to him as an incredibly loyal friend. He had a gift for making everyone feel important and appreciated. He was great to laugh and have fun with. He told the best stories, and his kind heart and willingness to help others left a lasting impression. Don was truly one of a kind.

Don is survived by his father, Dr. Carl Morris Drury Jr.; his son, Daniel Warren Drury; his cherished friend, Cheryl Blanc; Daniel's mother Erin Harrison Drury; his siblings, Chip Drury (Kathy), Mark Drury (Dawn); Ansley Neel (Nick) and Lori Strother (Jason); his uncle, Dr. Wiley LaDon Drury; and numerous cousins. He was an adoring uncle to Adam Drury, Dalton Drury, Mary Margaret Neel, Hollis Neel, Ferrell Drury, Laurel Neel, Rachel Drury, Morris Drury, Margaret Drury, Samuel Drury, Wiley Strother and Wren Strother.
