John Robert
Parker
May 26, 1944 — Feb 22, 2022
John "Jack" Parker, of St. Marys, GA. passed away on February 22, 2022 at the age of 77.
Jack was born on May 26 th , 1944 in Richmond, VA to William and Mary Parker. He is survived by his loving wife Clare, his beloved son Christopher, daughter in law Lauren and his precious grandson Nathaniel. He also leaves behind his brothers Pat, Steven and Tom and his sister Joan as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Jack was second born to a family of eight and grew up in Omaha, NE. Clearly William and Mary felt that they needed to continue trying after Jack and didn't get it finally right until they had their last son Tom. Jack attended the seminary, but was drummed out after imbibing alter wine. He went on to graduate from Creighton Prep and Creighton University (but you would be hard pressed to find anyone in those institutions that will willingly admit that.) He went and served his country after graduating from Creighton. And would, during his year tour of duty, win the Bronze Star for courage under fire. This trait would come in very handy in the future, as Jack had to deal with his wife and his son. Jack moved to New York City, NY. after returning from the war and started working at Arthur Anderson Accounting Firm. (Which is likely why it doesn't exist anymore.) He met his loving wife in New York and were married in 1973 and were married 49 years, until his passing. Sadly, for Jack, the original marriage contract stipulated that she be in charge for the first 50 years and then he could be charge for the second. They had their son in 1978 and shortly after decided that New York would be way too exciting for a young child and moved to Cincinnati, OH. instead. Jack would then help start up a steel company, Newport Steel (they weren't too original at naming things in this company). Jack would be their Vice President and Treasurer and despite that they flourished. In 1988 they became a publicly traded company and Jack became a Chief Financial Officer and still the company, somehow, still continued to grow. In 2001, Jack decided that he needed to pursue other options. So, he went to Thomas More College in the same year. Jack became their Vice President and was put in charge of the finances and fundraising. He also managed to con them into letting him serve as an interim Athletics Director and eventually even as interim President of the College. The only reason he was really working there is so his ungrateful son wouldn't have to pay full tuition, really. Not long after the ingrate graduated (and after many, many bribes to the teachers to pass him), Jack retired to Florida to enjoy watching his favorite sports teams lose (Cincinnati Reds, Bengals, Nebraska Huskers and he contributed to some really rough years for the University of Kentucky basketball team. We are pretty sure the shock of the Bengals making the Superbowl is what killed him). He also really enjoyed losing money playing golf with his friends. Or at least, Jack called it golf, his friends called it charity. After a while he decided to put his time to better use and started working for a nonprofit company called Concerted Services, Inc. (now Action Pact, they had to change it just before he retired from them so they could put some distance between him and them). They are located in Waycross, GA. and so Jack moved himself and his wife to St. Marys, Ga. because being closer than an hour and half away from work would stop his wife and son from making a joke about Jack having to drive WAAAYYY CROOSS Georgia to get to his work. He worked there until 2020 as their Chief Financial Officer and Chief Coffee Spiller. Jack then retired and devoted his time to his wife, his brand-new grandson, an amazing daughter in law and that ingate of a son.
A memorial service will be held in Cincinnati, OH. in April, 2022 at St. Mary's Parish in Hyde Park.
