Obituary

James Nelson White, 83, passed away peacefully at his home in St. Marys, Georgia, on October 27, 2026, with his three children by his side.

James was born on December 8, 1942, in New York City, New York, to Edson James White and Margaret Theodora Nelson White.

He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Randolph-Macon College, where he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity, and his MBA from Rutgers University. James built a successful career as an accountant, owning and operating his own practice in both Florida and Georgia, where he served many small businesses and individuals. James was a man of Christian faith. He was a member of the Episcopal Church for most of his life and later found a spiritual home in the Anglican Church. Outside of work, James’s great passion was sailing. He was a longtime member of the Palm Beach Sailing Club, where he enjoyed both racing and cruising sailboats. He was also a devoted University of Georgia Bulldogs fan, and his love for the red and black ran deep. His passion went well beyond football; he followed and cheered for every Georgia team, all year long. From the gridiron to the diamond, the court, and the soccer field, James planned his schedule around UGA sporting events, and family and friends knew that whenever the Dawgs were playing, that’s where his heart would be. He was, without question, a Damn Good Dawg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edson and Theodora White.

James is survived by his brother, Ted (Sandy) White of Glen Allen, Va; his daughter, Bonnie (Ken) Knight of Fernandina Beach, Fl; his sons, Michael (Shea) White of St Marys, Ga and Christopher White of St. Marys, Ga; and his grandchildren, Cody (Christen) Knight, Aaron White, Christopher White, Katie (Jon) Edwards, and Chloe White. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

An Anglican memorial service celebrating James’s life will be held in December 2026. In June 2027, in keeping with his love of sailing, his ashes will be spread near the marker buoy of the Palm Beach Inlet in Palm Beach County, Florida. Details for both will be shared at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in James’s memory to the American Lung Association or your closest Anglican Church.
