Hurt
Jul 4, 1924 — Jan 12, 2024
Irma Jeanne Hoylman Hurt, 99, of St. Marys, woke up in the arms of Jesus on January 12, 2024.
She was born July 4, 1924, in Charleston, WV, and was the daughter of the late John and Olive K. Hoylman.
Jeanne spent her younger years in Marmet, WV, graduating from East Bank High School in 1942. After moving to Charleston, WV she married James Street in 1945. He preceded her in death in 1955. She was a homemaker and enjoyed her favorites hobbies of reading her Bible, creating beautiful ceramics, sewing, baking, and quilting. Jeanne remarried in 1963 to Riley Hurt who also preceded her in death, as well as her three brothers Kenneth, Bobby, and Bill Hoylman, her sister Yvonne Hoylman Townsend, and her daughter Debbie Street Compton. Moving to St. Marys in 1990, she joined St Marys Methodist church, becoming active in UMW and other areas of ministry there. She was in the choir and had a
beautiful soprano voice. She was a wonderful seamstress, making many items for the church craft sale each month. She also loved to cook, and her candy was always a big hit at her church bake sale, as well as with lucky family members. She read her Bible daily and was a dedicated Christian, having given her life to the Lord at an early age.
Survivors include her children Mark Hurt (Sheri) of Spring, Texas, and James Street (Sandra) of St. Marys; eight grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to GHC hospice for their compassionate and loving care given to our Mom over the last several years. To each one, we shall be eternally grateful.
