Obituary

Gwendolyn Juanita Threlkeld, lovingly known as "Charlie" passed away peacefully on July 14, 2024 in St. Mary's, Georgia. She was 93 years old

Juanita was born on May 27, 1931 to her parents, Mary and Carl Turner, in Shelby, North Carolina. She attended Shelby High School. While on a double date organized by her older sister, she met Willard (Bud) Baker. They married in December 1947. Juanita was a busy military wife to her husband Bud, by that time a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army. During the early years they raised four children and lived all over the world, including Germany, Alaska, Missouri, South Carolina, and Kansas. She was a lady of many talents and loved to work. She ran a restaurant in Fairbanks, Alaska, waitressed and cooked in several other restaurants, ran her own commercial cleaning business, worked in a variety of retail establishments, and operated a Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealership in Newnan, Georgia. Her own home was immaculate, and her cooking was second to none. She was a devout Christian and a member of First Baptist Church in St. Mary's, Georgia. She was a loving Nana to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She traveled extensively but her favorite memories were of the annual family reunions in Panama City, Florida. She loved spoiling her family with her culinary skills and challenging them with her card playing. She played a mean game of Canasta.

Juanita is survived by her children Ken Baker (wife Cheryl, deceased), LaVonda Turner (husband Steve), Rodney Baker (wife Carol) and Greg Baker (wife Kandace). In addition, she is survived by her ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and many friends.

Juanita was predeceased by late husband, Gene Threlkeld, her sister, Erline Miller, and brothers Olin and David Turner.
