Obituary

Frank J. "Tank" Willis Jr., 71, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 11, 2026, while holding the hands of those he loved most. Frank left behind a lifetime of love, devotion, and unforgettable memories with those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Born on March 20, 1955, in New Haven, Connecticut, son of Frances Sotis Willis. Frank spent most of his life in Connecticut. After retirement, he and his beloved wife Wendy, made their home in Bluffton, South Carolina before settling in Kingsland, Georgia.

Above all else, Frank's greatest joy was his wife Wendy. He shared 49 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, whose unwavering partnership was the foundation of a beautiful life together. Together they raised four children and were blessed with six cherished grandchildren, each of whom brought immense pride and happiness to his life. Frank was a man who loved deeply, even if he didn't always express it with words. Quiet and naturally introverted, he formed friendships carefully, but once you earned his trust, you had a loyal friend for life. Those fortunate enough to know him understood that beneath his reserved nature was a man with a generous heart, steadfast character, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved. He was, in every sense of the word, a protector. His family knew that no matter the circumstance, Dad always had their backs. He was a constant source of support, strength, and reassurance. He showed his love through his actions—by taking care of those around him, solving problems, and making sure his family was safe and provided for. That quiet, dependable love will remain one of his greatest legacies. Professionally, Frank dedicated 26 years to the Regional Water Authority in New Haven, CT, followed by another 13 years with Southern Connecticut Gas Company in Fairfield CT. His strong work ethic and sense of responsibility reflected the same commitment he showed in every area of his life. Outside of work, Frank enjoyed planning family vacations and took great pride in finding the best travel deals, making sure his loved ones could create lasting memories together. His nickname was "KING travel". He was an avid fan of the NY Giants and NY Yankees, specifically his idol was Thurman Munson. He enjoyed following and playing golf. Frank had a very special place in his heart for his beloved dogs Diesel and Chico. In recent years, Frank found comfort and peace in returning to the Catholic Church, where he faithfully attended Mass alongside Wendy. His renewed faith brought him strength and reflected the hope and gratitude that marked this chapter of his life. Frank will be remembered not only for the life he lived but for the security, love, and unwavering support he gave so freely to those around him. His presence was a steady one, his loyalty unquestionable, and his love enduring. While his family mourns the loss of an incredible husband, father, grandfather, relative, and friend, they also celebrate a life filled with dedication, quiet strength, and unconditional love.

Frank's legacy lives on in his beloved wife, Wendy. He is survived by his daughter, Stacey Willis of Kingsland, Georgia, his daughter Megan Willis-Bush (Kelvin) and their children Julian and Thalia of East Hartford, CT. Also survived by Keri and Jonathan Punko and their children Gabrielle and Gavin as well as Matthew and Amanda Willis and their children Ryan and Connor and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Though he will be deeply missed, the lessons he taught through his example—to protect, to provide, to remain loyal, and to love without conditions—will continue to guide those he leaves behind.

A funeral service celebrating Frank's life will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in St. Marys, Georgia on Tuesday July 28, 2026 at 11:00 am. Followed by a reception at the church social hall.

Those wishing to honor Frank's memory are invited to make a donation to The Foundation of Community Hospice and Palliative Care specifically designated to the Jane and Bill Warner Center for Caring at the website TheFoundationCares.org.
