Dorothy Lee
Head
Dec 26, 1942 — Dec 10, 2025
Dorothy Lee Head, (82), went to be with Jesus on December 10, 2025 in Saint Augustine, FL, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.
Dorothy was born in Kingsland, GA on December 26, 1942. After graduating high school in Camden County, Dorothy attended the Jones Junior Business College in Jacksonville, FL. Dorothy married the love of her life, Harley Dilworth Head Jr., in 1961. Together, in 1968, they built a successful family business that includes retail stores, interstate billboards, and real estate. Their legacy lives on through their children and grandchildren as the business enters its third generation. Dorothy lived a life of service. Her heart for helping others touched countless lives. She
volunteered at her local church and was voted Woman of the Year at Peavy Memorial Methodist Church in Cordele, GA in 1981, where she also served as Church Secretary. Throughout the years, she spent her time visiting with those in need, cooking for food pantries, and helping to renovate the Methodist Home for Children and Youth. Dorothy also purchased and donated the White Oak Methodist Church that was being closed by the Southeast Georgia Conference so that the people of the White Oak community would have a Church to worship in. Later in life, she was a member of the Shores United Methodist Church in Saint Augustine, FL. Dorothy was a true example of serving God with your time, talent, and treasure. In her later years, Dorothy found joy in sewing. She poured love into every beautiful quilt she made for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends. Each one a piece of art and a piece of her heart. She also found joy in restoring old sewing machines and donating them to Haiti for those in need. For more than forty years, Dorothy balanced her time between Kingsland, GA and Saint Augustine, FL, always choosing to be close to the family she loved. Affectionately known as "GranGran", she cherished her final years enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passing on her love of cooking and baking. Her southern classics -cornbread dressing, chicken and dumplings, and collard greens - were some of her family's favorites. Every Christmas, her home filled with the aroma of freshly baked pecan pies and fruitcakes that she gave out as gifts.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Dilworth Head Jr. who passed away in 1998; her brothers William Cooner, Dan Cooner, and Fred Cooner.
She is survived by her 2nd husband, Reverend Larry Bringman, her sisters, Alice Freund and Barbara Kahler (who was like a daughter); her children, Teresa Griffin, along with her husband, Edward "Boone" Griffin and Harley Head III, along with his wife, Pamela Head; and her grandchildren Edward Griffin, Courtney Cook, Maddie Landro, Hayden Head, Ashley Head, Sophie Head and like a grandson, Dennis Kahler. She is also survived by her great- grandchildren Sadie-Harper Cook, Easton Cook, Patrick Landro, Maisley Landro, Marlie Landro, and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Dorothy's funeral service will be held Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 11:00am at Waverly Methodist Church, in Waverly, Georgia (427 Middleton St, Waverly, GA 31565). A graveside service will follow at Homeward Cemetery in Waverly, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Bailey Center for Caring Hospice (200 Health Park Blvd, Saint Augustine, FL 32086) or Waverly Methodist Church. The family would like to thank all of the caregivers, nurses, and doctors who so lovingly cared for Dorothy during her final years. Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and love. She touched hearts wherever she went, and her presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
