Obituary

Donald Wayne Milstesd, 75, of Kingsland, Ga passed away at Community Hospice in Fernandina Beach, FL on June 27, 2026.

Wayne was born on August 5, 1950 in Mobile, AL to Richard E. Milstead and L. Aileen Dannelly Milstead.

Wayne will be greatly missed by those who knew him.  His very core was loyalty – to his God, family, friends, employers, and the Camden County Senior Center.  Though his heart was filled with "hardware" in recent years, it was also a heart of gold, filled with kindness and compassion.  He loved babies, laughing at all baby giggles, even on a commercial.  Wayne was full of old sayings and funny stories.  He was never a complainer and often commented, "There's no sense in worrying about something you have no control over."  His peaceful nature was contagious and he brought a calming presence into any crisis.

He had a passion for hunting, fishing and nature, which he enjoyed through every tour of duty over his 20-year Naval career.  From the trade winds of Alaska to the heat of coastal Texas, he hunted and fished and taught others to do the same.  His patient lessons were available to anyone who wanted help if he had the knowledge to assist.  He spent many years in maintenance work and would give great thought to repair, often creating a unique solution with pieces and parts from his stash.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Phyllis Milstead of Kingsland, GA. Son, Russell Milstead (Tracy) of Kingsland, GA. Sisters, Carrie Nobles and Brenda Jayne. Grandchildren, Dalton Odom (Juli) and Dylan Odom (Lauren Troxey).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Alta Odom, grandson, Bryson Milstead and siblings, Charles, Sharon, and Shirley.

A Memorial service will be held on July 10, 2026 at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church in St Marys, Ga. Reception will follow.

A private burial will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
