Obituary

Delwyn "Del" I Orr, Jr, of Powell, Ohio passed away on November 7, 2023.

He fought every day against Parkinson's Disease and his strength and determination are an example and inspiration to us all.

Del was born in Jewett, OH, but lived most of his childhood in Wintersville, OH where he met his wife of nearly 65 years, Marcia Lee (Antill) Orr. They met and knew they were meant to be and if you saw Del, Marcia couldn't be far behind. Del enlisted in the Marine Corps at 18 and was a proud Reservist for 8 years, and his pride as a member of the USMC never wavered. They were together always – the best example of a loving faithful marriage to all who knew them. They never stopped listening and dancing to their song "Only You' by The Platters. Del and Marcia moved many times over the years, Ohio, New Jersey, Indiana, California, Georgia, and back and forth -- each bringing more memories and friends. Del had an entrepreneurial spirit and took over his father's dry cleaning business for several years, but also found success in manufacturing where his management style was valued by all who worked with him. As a father, he was always available. Providing advice, perspective and support when needed. Our many road trips to the Blue Ridge Parkway will be a cherished memory and the many family gatherings over the years provided so much joy, Del was a planner and liked to have road trips planned meticulously, but didn't hesitate to stop on the road to save an errant turtle who was in harm's way. He loved football, mostly college, and was a dedicated Ohio State Buckeyes fan – if the Buckeyes were playing on a Saturday, Del would be watching. If they weren't playing on a Saturday, he would watch one of his recordings of a previous game – that's the level to which he would go for his Buckeyes. More than his work, though, Del was a faithful and dedicated Christian. Del and Marcia always found a church home where they lived and were always involved in the many activities and classes with their friends who became family. One of his favorite hymns was "In the Garden". Del always prayed for a "hedge of protection" to surround all of his family – this was his daily prayer and always before any trip. He truly knew who was in control and put his faith first in his life. Del's wit and humor were his trademark. In his senior yearbook, it said "First on the wit parade." and that never changed. Always quick with a witty remark and knew how to deliver a line, his humor will be missed. He loved being Marcia's husband, being a father to Greg, Steve and Laurie, and PopPop to his grandchildren and great grandchildren – teaching them to fish was one of his great joys. One of the most generous people with his time and resources – he helped many people and never thought twice about it.

He leaves behind his loving wife who took exquisite care of him for the 67 years they were together, Marcia Lee Orr, Sons Gregory Delwyn Orr (Olive), Stephen Craig Orr (Amber), daughter Laurie Ann Dillemuth (Dan), Sister Carol Aldridge (Ed), nine grandchildren: Amanda, Lindsay, Matt, Sam, Emma, Hannah, Josh, Ethan, Jadelyn and 6 (nearly 7) great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Delwyn and Ola Orr, and brother Gary Eugene Orr.

Hemingway said a man's second death is the last time someone speaks his name – we will never stop speaking the dear name of Delwyn Orr. What a blessed life he lived.

A Celebration of Life event will be determined and announced at a later date.

Allison Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
