David "Dave" Brooks Mills, 58, of St. Marys, GA passed away at his residence on August 14, 2023.

Dave was born on March 15, 1965 in Atlanta, GA to Sarah McNeely. He was a Highschool graduate and attended college. Dave worked for the Camden County Sheriff's office from 2000-2014, where he was a jailor and then was promoted to Sergeant. He then went to work for St Marys Police Department and was a patrol officer and was later promoted to Corporal. In 2017, he left to pursue his short career at FLETC in Glynn County and then returned to Camden County Sheriff's Office in 2018 to become a School Resource Deputy.

Dave was a friend to all. He loved working with the Camden County Sheriff's office, in Camden County School systems, as well as being Camden County's finest DJ, DJ Dave. I think we can all say he thoroughly enjoyed writing his "Week as a resource school officer reviews" and posting them on Facebook and I know we all looked forward to reading them each Friday. Some of his favorite things are his family, friends, his dog, G and Granddog, Finn. He enjoyed shopping with Ashton, giving his grandson way too many ice cream passes, text back and forth with his daughter Kaylyn about discovering new music, watching Ghost Adventures with Jamie, eating rainbow sherbert (a lot of it) , drinking way too much milk, and of course, music. In his spare time you could usually find Dave running around town with his daughter, Ashton, whether it be shopping, eating at chick fil-a or going to the forbidden land aka Walmart… he despised Walmart and enjoyed putting music bingo cards together with Jamie, and taking naps.

Dave is survived by his daughters, Ashton Mills of St. Marys, GA and Kaylyn Mills of Kingsland, GA. Girlfriend, Jamie Helderbrand of St. Marys, GA. A sister, Shelly Brandel (Matt) of Greenville, SC. Grandson, Gavin Tanner of Kingsland, GA. Two step-daughters, Cara Helderbrand and Kursten Helderbrand, both of St. Marys, GA.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah McNeely Mills, and his grandparents, Edwin and Charlotte McNeely.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Camden on Saturday August 19, 2023 at 12:00 pm with Pastor Allison Murray officiating. Doors will open at 11:30. A procession will follow after service to Southern River Walk for friends to gather.
