Obituary

David Charles Joyner, 57, of St. Marys, GA passed away at Baylor, Scott, and White Hospital in Temple, TX on January 13, 2024.

David was born in Calais, ME on December 26, 1966 to James Charles Joyner and Margaret Sterling Joyner.

He was raised in Mauriceville, TX where he helped his dad run a farm. He participated in football for Mauriceville Junior High School, and band for Little Cypress Mauriceville High School. His passions since childhood included music, sports, and most of all people. David obtained multiple degrees attending colleges such as Lamar University, Oral Roberts, and Valdosta State. Having a deep desire to help shape young minds, David taught middle school for over 20 years in Camden County, Ga. He also coached football, basketball and wrestling at both the middle and high school level. David's love for music led him to be a member of multiple church choirs and quartets. He was affluent on saxophone, bass, and guitar. He also held various roles within the church. He was an evangelist and a youth pastor, passionately speaking to anyone who would listen about the love and grace he received and why it was important for others to be given the same. David loved to fish, golf, and play cards with his friends. They would frequently get together downtown for weekly card games where he would share stories and bring laughter and joy to all those around him. He took many on the road to Athens with him to see the Dawgs play on Saturdays. Or made trips to Vegas where he made memories not to be forgotten. No one was a stranger and he made friends with everyone he met. David was a dreamer with an enormous heart. From opening a restaurant, to raising two beautiful girls, he was never afraid to take chances, and always strived for things that stirred his heart. David loved his children and grandson more than anything, and was always the best dad, and grandpa that he could be. He always did his best to protect and care for them, and will always hold a huge piece of their hearts, never to be forgotten.
