Obituary

David Bliton passed away peacefully January 24, 2024 from a valiant fight against prostate cancer.

David was a loving and caring husband, father, Opa, brother, uncle, friend, and leader. He worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard from 1974-1993 and Kings Bay Naval Base as a General Foreman until his retirement in 2017, when he became the World's Best Opa.

David lived his life full of love. Love of The Beatles, love of music and film, love of collecting, love of a cold glass of Coke and Hershey's bar (with almonds)…but most of all, a deep love of his family, faith and friends. He adored his beautiful wife of 46 years, Laurie. They met as neighbors in Vacaville, California in 1966 and grew up together, marrying June 26, 1977. They traveled, attended car shows, joined a bowling league, and later welcomed two children, settling down in Kingsland, Georgia. They always kissed each other goodnight and held hands every day.

David lovingly supported his daughter, Amanda and son, Kyle, his son in law, Richard, and two wonderful grandchildren, Madeline and Benjamin in all they do. He was a constant cheerleader and supporter of his family's dreams, a storyteller, a jokester, the candy & toy man, a hug on a hard day, a boost of confidence over the phone, and just all around the best husband, dad, and Opa there was. He believed lovingly in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior and actively attended Our Lady Star of the Sea in St. Mary's, Georgia.

David was preceded in death by his father Mack Bliton, mother Phyllis Spell, sister Diane Allmond, brother Mike Bliton, and brother Ron Myli. He is survived by his wife Laurie Bliton, daughter Amanda (Richard) McIntosh, son Kyle Bliton, sister Patty Bliton, brother Steve (Shawn) Bliton, his grandchildren, Madeline and Benjamin McIntosh, and wonderful extended family.

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 24 at 10am at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 106 Dillingham St E, St Marys, GA 31558. David's favorite color was green if friends and family would like to wear green in his honor. A Celebration of Life reception will immediately follow in the church hall. All are welcome to come share stories and memories of David.

He is unbelievably missed and forever loved. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Children's of Alabama hospital, The Prostate Cancer Foundation, or PCRI.org.
