Clyde Anthony
Goebel
Jan 26, 1949 — Jul 11, 2026
Clyde Anthony Goebel, age 77, passed away peacefully at Hospice of the Golden Isles on July 11, 2026 in Brunswick, GA.
He was born January 26, 1949 in Chicago, IL to Clyde Arthur Goebel and Helen Marie Nisevich.
Clyde dedicated 28 years of honorable service to the United States Navy, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 2001. During his distinguished military career, he completed two combat tours in Vietnam as a member of Navy SEAL Team 2, serving his country with courage, dedication and quiet strength. His awards include citations for outstanding service in combat, various wartime campaign medals, and for his
efforts recruiting future United States Naval Officers while stationed in the Jacksonville, Florida and Hartford/New Haven Connecticut areas in later years prior to his retirement in 2001. He became a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars to keep that military pride alive. While serving, he also earned his bachelor's degree from Millikin University, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to personal growth and excellence.
While Clyde was proud of his military service, his greatest pride and deepest joy came from his family.
He was a devoted husband to his first wife, Norette (d.2011) and his five children, Kimberly Mikolajczak, Dennis (Kathleen), Tabatha Stowell (Cory), Christopher (Roxanne) and Nicole (Kelly). He was a proud grandfather to his 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren: Courtney (Hudson), Mackenzie, Katherine (Nolan), Rebecca, Patrick, Jack, Danny, Charlie, Shelby, Jayden and Jasper. He also leaves behind his brother Bruce (Carolyn) from Cedar Lake, IN and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
His children continue his legacy of kindness and respect for others. He was married to his second wife, Dewana, from 2012 until her passing in 2016 who brought the church and God back into his life. He had a special place in his heart for his beloved dogs, his most recent companions Otto and Ann Marie, who he rescued from the Camden Humane Society. From time to time an occasional cat found its way in. He enjoyed life's simple pleasures, including regular visits to Steffen's, Lunch Box and Cracker Barrel, where he looked forward not only to a good meal but also to seeing the waitresses who had become familiar friends over the years. He was also known to keep Fox News and The Big Bang Theory running quietly in the background on the TV while enjoying those Winston cigarettes. Those who knew him will remember him as a man of quiet strength and unwavering character. He possessed a quiet calmness and steady spirit, treating everyone with respect and kindness.
He will be greatly missed by all that knew him, and may he rest in peace, with fair winds and following seas.
Memorial services and celebration of life to be announced at a later date.
