Charles Landon Scott Cooke passed away in Jacksonville, Florida, on April 8, 2025, at the age of 85.
He was born April 5, 1940, in Danville, Virginia, to parents George Swayze Cooke Jr. and Clare Louise Scott Cooke.
Scott is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Carol Fowler Cooke; daughter Clare Cooke Dean (David); son Scott Thomas Chance Cooke (Barbara); sister Clare Cooke Agrapart (Gerard); sister in law Marilyn Plainer, grandson Alexander Dean (Michelle); granddaughters Clare Kelly Dussol, Paetra Cooke, Isabelle Cooke, and Kate Cooke; great-granddaughter Abigail Dussol, nieces Carole Agrapart Villain ( Fabrice ); Kate Agrapart Gates ( Jacques ); Laurie Neiblum ( Jeff ); nephew Bryan Fowler.
Scott worked in banking in Washington DC for 30 years, providing an excellent quality of life for his family. He eventually retired as the Executive Vice President of Albemarle First Bank in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2006.
Scott was an avid reader, fly fisherman, and golfer, moving to Kingsland, Georgia, in pursuit of those activities after retirement. Scott and Carol built a vibrant social life that included travel abroad and destination golf trips across the U.S. with friends.
Success for Scott was measured by his family's opportunity to live a good life. He is remembered by family and friends as a loyal friend and reliable partner who brought a positive attitude to the task at hand. He was a generously kindhearted and thoughtful mentor to those fortunate enough to spend time with him. His counsel will be greatly missed, but his legacy of love and support has been passed on to the next generation.
Scott's final resting place will be Amherst Cemetery in Virginia, next to his parents.
