White Oak

Obituary

Charles "Charlie" Burton, a devoted husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully in White Oak, Georgia with his beloved dog Zeus by his side on October 24th, 2025.  Born February 22nd,1950, in Lynchburg, Virginia, to William & Virginia Burton. Charlie is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Theresa Burton, and their beloved daughter Tiffany Ailsworth (West), both of whom were the center of his world.  Charlie's legacy lives on in the laughter he shared, the friendships he cherished, and the unwavering love he gave so freely.

Charlie's humor and warmth were his hallmarks. He had an unmatched ability to make those around him smile- whether through a perfectly timed joke, a shared story, or a round of golf with good friends. A true gentleman both on and off the golf course, Charlie built lifelong friendships through his love of the game and his genuine spirit of camaraderie.  His travels with friends, filled with laughter and memories, were some of his most treasured experiences.

A proud alumnus of Virginia Episcopal School, Charlie went on to attend Virginia Tech and Campbell University. He remained a passionate Hokie, spending countless Saturdays cheering on Virginia Tech football- often surrounded by family and friends who shared his enthusiasm for the game.

Charlie's faith was the cornerstone of his life.  As a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church, he lived his beliefs daily and his strong faith guided his actions, strengthened his family, and grounded his deep commitment to his community. Charlie gave generously of his time and leadership serving as President of the Boonsboro Volunteer Fire Department, Deacon and Elder at First Presbyterian Church, Board of Trustees at Virginia Episcopal School, and Board of Directors at Boonsboro County Club.  Through each of these roles, he led with integrity, compassion, and a heart for helping others.   His life was a blessing to all who knew him and his light continues to shine through the lives he touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Lynchburg, Virginia, November 8th at 1:00 PM with reception to follow at Boonsboro Country Club.

In Charlie's memory, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Lynchburg Virginia, Boonsboro Volunteer Fire & Rescue Lynchburg, Virginia, or Virginia Episcopal School, Lynchburg, Virginia.
