Bobby Hudson, 81, a proud veteran of the United States Navy, Submarine Service, passed away peacefully at home on September 12, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. The son of Rev. Robert F. Hudson and Irene Lynch, Bob was born April 18, 1945, in Tempe Arizona. His family moved to Wellington, Texas where he was later raised by his father after his parent’s divorce. After graduation from Wellington High School, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy, volunteering for the Submarine Service. Bob highly valued his time in the Submarine Service and throughout many years of dedication, he attained the rank of Engineman Master Chief Petty Officer. During his military career he served on a total of five submarines from August 1965 to June 1988 including; USS Sam Rayburn (a James Madison Class sub), USS Cubera (a Balao Class sub), USS Sabalo (a Balao Class sub), USS Cod (a Gato-class sub), and the USS Wahoo (a Gato Class sub). Bob retired from the Submarine Service after 23 year and ½ month of service to our country. Bob loved the American Flag proudly served under her banner. A long-time resident of St Mary’s, Georgia, Bob lived for a short time in Millington, Tennessee where he was stationed as a Command Career Counselor before returning to St. Mary’s in 1982 and permanently calling it home. Following his decorated military service, he worked for Johnson Control World Services in King’s Bay, Georgia as a Utilities Manager. He retired from Johnson Control in 1994.
Bob was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the United States Submarine Veterans Association (USSVI). He was a member of the local Eagles and former President of the local branch 248 of the Fleet Reserve Association.
Bob married Beverly Segers in June 1968. During their marriage they moved to Hannibal, Mississippi where they welcomed their only child, Brande Renee. Bob and Beverly later divorced. Bob was a doting father and Brande was the light of his life and his greatest heartache when she passed away in August 2022. In 1998, Bob married Barbara Joyce Segers, she passed away in December 2013. Bob spent several years as a Bachelor until he reconnected with Mavis Chatwin after the passing of her husband. They spent several years together, traveled with family and going back and forth from Georgia to Utah. They committed to each other as husband and wife in December 2019. Mavis was attentive and lovingly cared for Bob in his home in St. Mary’s during his final days.
Bob was a sandwich connoisseur, and always loved a good sandwich whether it was from a basic subway to a dagwood, or simply a hamburger. He was always willing to try all different types of food, including alligator. His fun-loving nature was a draw for many people who knew and loved him. Bob was a true southern gentleman and lived with a high level of standards and carried that expectation to others around him. He showed the upmost respect for friends, acquaintances and treated the women in his life with love and kindness. Bob enjoyed being outdoors surrounded by nature. He enjoyed riding ATV’s near the Okefenokee Swamp. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who caught squirrels (which he ate), deer and a wild hog. He was a proud papa to Macie and Logen and his great grandsons. Bob will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, Bobby asked for donations to be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to honoring the lives lost on September 11, 2001. The foundation helps Gold-Star and fallen first responder families with children and injured veterans. Bobby loved the mission of Tunnel to Towers and to honor those Americans who lost so much.
