Bernita
Payton
Jul 28, 1967 — Nov 29, 2024
Bernita Denette Payton Frison, age 57, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, and beloved resident of St. Marys, Georgia, entered eternal rest peacefully on November 29, 2024, in the comfort of her home.
Born to the late Bernard "Benny" Harris and the late Lois Naomi Edinburgh Thomas, Bernita lived a life deeply rooted in faith, family, and dedicated service. She was the devoted wife of Rodney Frison, and together, they lovingly raised a blended family of five children: Joshua Payton (Kingsland, GA), Marcia Hooks (TX), the late LaRodrick Frison, Octavia Frison, and Ryan Frison (all of Kingsland, GA). She was the cherished daughter-in-law of the late Jesse Frison, Sr., and Minister Lois Frison (St. Marys, GA).
Bernita was the beloved sister of Connie "Chunky" Hamilton; her twin, the late Juanita Arso Harris Thompson; Bernard "Benny" Harris, Jr.; Regan Harris-Johnson; Crystal Harris; Andrea Burton; and Terecita Lavalais. She was also a dear sister-in-law to Jesse Frison, Jr.; Stacy (Catrina) Frison; the late Gloria Frison; and Nadine (Edward, Jr.) Rauls. She shared a special bond with her godmother, Yvonne E. Morris, and her love extended to a vast circle of family and friends.
A proud graduate of John Ehret High School in Marrero, LA, Bernita pursued higher education in California, where she began her career as a social worker, dedicating herself to improving lives. Her passion for service later led her to education, where she inspired and nurtured young minds as a para-professional at Mamie Lou Gross Elementary in Kingsland, GA. Bernita's entrepreneurial spirit flourished as the founder of Sugar Mama Pralines & More, a beloved local business that became a symbol of her connection to the community. Known for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love, Bernita was a guiding light to those around her. Her life was a testament to resilience, compassion, and the profound impact of love and service. Bernita will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A Memorial Service celebrating her remarkable life will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Allison Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 10141 Colerain Road, St. Marys, GA 31558.
